5 Steps to a Successful Day

A successful day starts the night before!

 

A lot of us have a daily routine.  We wake up, have some coffee, get ready for work and then come home have dinner, go to bed, and do it all over again the next day.

 

But, is your routine setting you up for success?

 

A successful day starts the night before.  Prepare for tomorrow before you go to bed.  This will allow you to wake up with initiative and know exactly what you should be doing instead of sleepily muddling through a boring routine.

 

1. Water

The first thing I encourage you to do is to start your morning with at least 18 ounces of water.  I love Swell bottles.  I fill a 25 ounce water bottle up before I go to bed.  I keep that water bottle next to my bed at night so when I wake up I can easily rehydrate.  After hours sleeping we are extremely dehydrated when we wake up.  Start your day with fresh water to hydrate and wake you up.

 

2. Breakfast

A successful day includes starting your morning with healthy food choices.  It's easy to consume junk when you wake up hungry in the morning and don't have breakfast planned.  Refuel your body with nutritious food.  Plan ahead and make your breakfast the night before.  Quick recipes include oats or chia seed pudding that can be left in the refrigerator overnight.  Wake up to a healthy breakfast without reaching for sugary treats or skipping it all together.  Beginning your day hungry will lead to a day full of unhealthy convenient meals and inevitably a bad mood.  A successful day starts with a plan!

 

 

3. Exercise

Map out a plan for your workout.  Whether it’s an exercise DVD, an app on your phone, a group exercise class, or simply a walk around the neighborhood.  Get your body up and moving in the morning!  Knowing how you will workout in the morning is important.  Especially when you’re lacking the motivation to workout in the first place.  Knowing exercise is on your to-do list will give you extra accountability to complete the task and cross it off your list.  Part of the struggle is just choosing what to do.  In the morning it is common to spend time going back and forth trying to figure out what workout to do.  You use up all your energy trying to choose the workout that it becomes easier to just not workout in the first place.  Time slips by and all of a sudden you’re running late.  You put off your workout for later but you end up being so tired after a long day that it doesn’t get done.  Prioritize and schedule time in the morning to get your body moving.  Imagine how you will feel when you're done!  That sense of accomplishment and a clear mind will start your day with success.

 

4. Personal Development

While getting ready in the morning wake your mind up with some personal development.  A successful day includes learning and becoming better.  Have a plan for what personal development you want to educate yourself with in the morning.  This can be reading a book, listening to an audio, or online program.  Choose something to help grow your mind and enrich your life.  Again, pick this out the night before so you’re not debating what to do in the morning.  Set yourself up for success the night before!

 

5. Goal

Lastly, make a plan for what one thing you must get done tomorrow and do this one thing first!  No other tasks should be draining your energy before you accomplish your one main to-do.  Before you check your email or scroll through social media, get this one task completed.  Let this be your domino that by accomplishing this one thing it will allow the rest of your day to go smoother.  It’s probably something you’re putting off doing or it seems so time consuming that you really don’t want spend time on this activity.  By doing this one thing first you’ll get it out of the way.  At the end of the day you’ll look back and know that you were productive.  This is what a successful day feels like.
