Changing Your Goal Limiting Beliefs And Stories

There are limiting beliefs that are holding you back from going after your goals and dreams in life.  This can be from other people who told you reasons why you can’t do something or previous experiences that cause you to be fearful of taking action towards your dreams.  Either way, you have formed stories in your mind of what you believe to be true about life.  These thoughts, beliefs, and stories can hold you back from taking action to achieve your goals and prevent you from ultimately living life to your full potential.

 

Childhood Beliefs

Most of these stories were created during your childhood.  Think back to when you were little.  You were brave, courageous, and ready to go explore all that life had to offer.  You hadn’t formed beliefs around why you couldn’t or shouldn’t do something.  You were just curious enough to try.  But, then you put your hand on the hot stove and learned that wasn’t such a good idea.  You were scolded by adults when you did something wrong.  You might have even seen other children experience harsh, negative remarks and you decided not to put yourself in a similar situation.  You’re beginning to form beliefs about the world around you.

 

Comfort Zone

As you grow older, your view on the world changes.  Your vision of life has been molded by your experiences.  Your mind just wants to keep you safe so it focuses on helping you do more of the good and works extra hard to avoid the scary or embarrassing moments.  Your mind wants to keep you in your comfort zone of what you already know to be safe.  Yet, goals and dreams are not achieved in your comfort zone.  You have to realize that just because something didn’t go well the first time doesn’t mean that you’re incapable of improving to have a better experience the next time.  You have to learn to recognize the limiting beliefs and stories that are keeping you in your comfort zone.

 

Unknowns

You also have limiting beliefs and stories because of the many unknowns in life.  You can’t predict with one hundred percent certainty what’s going to happen in the future.  Your mind often fills in the gaps with what information you have from previous experiences.  But, your mind can be a bad fortune teller of the future because it quickly goes to the worst case scenario.  However, you can easily get caught up replaying that rare, possible outcome over and over again in your mind.  The truth is, you can do your best to plan and gage what will happen in the future but you won’t actually know until you’re in it.  Avoid dwelling on the unknowns and worrying about the worst case scenario because you’ll start to believe it will happen.

 

Changing Your Limiting Beliefs

Learn to change your limiting beliefs and stories by recognizing when it’s occurring.  Notice when your body tenses up physically.  Listen to what your inner voice is saying.  Pay attention to what you’re thinking and feeling.  Next, ask yourself if this is a real threat to you or if it’s just a limiting belief that’s trying to keep you safe.  Then, work to address the stories that commonly arise for you.  Construct new beliefs with positive affirmations.  Such as, you can figure this out or you are smart.  Form new positive, uplifting beliefs that motivate you into action.  Create new stories for yourself with positive experiences.  Hype yourself up and cheer yourself on when you try something new that’s outside of your comfort zone.  Help yourself to believe that you can do difficult things that may be unknown or that previously didn’t go your way.  Do not let your limiting beliefs or stories hold you back from going after your goals and dreams in life.

 

 

There are so many limiting beliefs and stories that are holding you back from living life to your full potential.  You have childhood beliefs, beliefs from other people, past experiences, and the fear of the unknown that’s right outside your comfort zone.  No wonder it’s a battle to actually take action towards your goals when you’re dealing with so much internal conflict.  You want to take action towards your goals but your inner limiting beliefs and stories are keeping you stuck.  Start to consciously watch when your limiting beliefs and stories try and hold you back from taking action towards your goals.  Then, work to change your limiting beliefs and stories so that you can push through and take action towards the life of your dreams.  You can achieve massive success in your life but only when you change the limiting beliefs and stories that are fighting to hold you back.
