Sometimes you stop taking action towards your goals, whether that was intentional or unintentional. Getting yourself back into action can be difficult. You’ve been on pause for so long, that it’s become easier to do just nothing rather than the tough work to achieve your goal. But, you’re not making progress towards achieving your goal and it’s really starting to bother you. Here is how you can get yourself back into action after taking a break from your goal.
The first step is to notice the signs. You'll know it’s time to get yourself back into action after taking a break from your goal when you hear your inner voice speak up. You’ll notice a niggle inside of you saying it’s time to get up and do something to achieve your goal. But, you’ve been on break so you say not today, maybe tomorrow. It’s easier to push down that inner voice and quiet it rather than doing the difficult work to achieve your goal. You respond saying that you’ll start taking action when you feel like it. Yet, this is your inner voice saying deep down you do feel like it! Don’t ignore it! Take the action! Either accept the challenge to take action right now or disregard it and feel bad that you didn’t do anything to achieve your goal.
The next sign is your inner feeling of disappointment and sadness that you haven’t been taking action towards your goal. You’re not making any progress towards your goal and you’re feeling pretty badly about it. You haven’t stuck to your commitments and you’ve let your goal fall to wayside. These feelings are starting to weigh on you and you’re not quite sure how much longer you can keep sitting on the sidelines doing nothing. You’re beginning to question where you even start to get yourself back into taking action towards your goal since it’s been so long.
The best way to get yourself back into action after taking a break from your goal is to create a plan. Make a list of everything you need to do to achieve your goal. Then, choose something small to start with. The first action step back from a break doesn’t have to be huge or momentous. It just has to be something. When you take the first action step, you’ll be more likely to continue taking more, which will inevitably end your break. Stick to taking action every day, no matter how small the activity is. You’ll finally be back on track and taking action towards your goal again.
Lastly, you may be disconnected from your goal so take time to reconnect to what you want to achieve. Write down your goal so that you know exactly what you’re working towards. When you remember what you’re working towards, you’ll be more motivated to take the actions necessary to achieve it. Recall why this goal is important to you and what it would mean when you achieve it. Reignite that inner fire and passion for your goal again. Get excited about what you want to achieve so that you’ll be fired up and ready to take action. Your motivation will come and go so sometimes you need to find that inspiration within yourself in order to get back into action.
If you’ve been on a perpetual break from your goal with no end in sight, then it’s time to get yourself back into taking action. First, listen to your inner voice when it speaks up telling you it’s time to do something to achieve your goal. Pay attention to how you’ve been feeling. If you notice that you’ve been feeling down because you’re not taking action towards your goal, then that’s a clear sign that you need to get back to it. Start by making an action plan of the things you need to do to achieve your goal. Then, start with one small action step and commit to continuing to take action. Lastly, reconnect to your goal and remember what you’re working to achieve. Get excited about your goal and when you do, you’ll be more motivated to get back into action.
