If you’re fed up with feeling a bit lost and stuck in your current daily routine, then it’s time to take some action. But, not just any action. Otherwise, you’ll be taking tons of action on something that isn’t making any progress towards where you really want to be in your life. Here is a three step process to help you figure out how to get from where you are to where you want to be.
The first step is to figure out where you are. This is the essential starting place before figuring out where you want to be. Take a look at your life and do a mental assessment. Ask yourself how you’re feeling about your career, finances, environment, relationships, etc. Make note if something feels a bit off or disconnected. This marks a flag for an area where you need to focus your attention.
Now that you know where you are, the next step is figure out where you want to be. For example, if you don’t feel as connected in your relationships, you may need to allocate more time to building deeper connections with friends and family. This could mean spending more time with them, calling, texting, or emailing. Pick which area you’re focusing on and decide where you want that area to improve to.
Lastly, comes the fun part. You’ve figured out where you are and where you want to be, now is when you figure how to get there. You may get caught up and overwhelmed in the how by thinking how am I going to do this. But, don’t stress. The how doesn’t have to be complicated. The easiest thing you can do is model those that have gone before you. Take a look at others who are where you’d like to be. These people are your mentors that will help you get to where you want to be. Sign up for their programs, get on their email list, listen to their podcast, read their books, watch their videos, follow them on social media, etc. A lot of people are willing to share their answers to help you get from where you are to where you want to be so much faster than they ever did. You can find these people by doing a simple search on the internet or social media. If you want to get from where you are to where you want to be the fastest, find a mentor you can learn from who’s willing to share what they’ve learned on the particular area you’re focusing on.
If you want to get to a certain destination, you first have to know where you’re starting out from. The route from one point to another is different depending on where you’re starting from. Then, once you’re clear on where you want to go, you’ll be able to figure out a way to get to where you want to be. Others have gone before you and taken this route before. That’s why there are maps to give you directions. A guide will help you take the fastest, most direct route as possible and lessen the likely hood of experiencing detours.
