There are four types of people when it comes to working to achieve goals. This dictates how you view your dreams and new opportunities in your life. It’s also how you take action towards those dreams and how you take on challenges. Learn which type you are by how you pursue your goals so that you can achieve your dreams in life.
The first type is a dreamer. You’re a dreamer if you rarely take action towards your goal. It could be fear, worry, or doubt that keeps you stuck. You would rather stay safe in your comfort zone and only dream about future possibilities. You keep your head up in the clouds with no intention of acting on your dreams because you do not like opposition and challenges. You’re too afraid, scared, and that fear will always hold you back from going after your goals. A dreamer can visualize what’s possible but never takes action. Therefore, you don’t have to face goal related challenges. The goals and dreams of a dreamer will always remain unachieved. It’s heartbreaking.
Next, is the dabbler. Dabblers are subject to shiny object syndrome where you often run towards new opportunities and jump from one idea to the next. A dabbler takes action but never really sticks it out to see if your goal can be achieved. You don’t give it enough time before moving on to the next new opportunity or shiny object. When a goal gets difficult to achieve and you experience a challenge, you immediately quit. It’s easier to find an excuse rather than to try and overcome an obstacle. You move on to another opportunity in hopes that’s an easier way to achieve success. You continue searching and trying new things so that you don't have to face any challenges. A dabbler takes some action towards a goal but gives up when there are challenges. You may see some progress towards your goal but not enough to actually achieve it.
Then, there is the defender who is good at tackling challenges but has stopped going after new opportunities. You’re good at facing opposition when it threatens your current level of success. Yet, the fear of taking on a new goal and possibly falling short or failing in public is scary to a defender. You’d rather defend and hold your current position. You do not go after more goals and dreams because you wonder what would happen if you look bad or embarrassed yourself. A defender has a reputation to uphold. You believe that you’ve already achieved a certain level of success that you’re content with and you’d prefer not to risk losing that. It's terrifying to think about doing something else that could possibly jeopardize what you already have. Therefore, you don’t take action towards new goals and just conquer any challenges that threaten you to lose what you’ve already achieved.
Lastly, you have the doer. A doer takes action. You go after new opportunities and know that challenges will occur. You realize challenges are an opportunity to learn and grow. A doer recognizes that through the challenges, more opportunities are created. You view a challenge as a new opportunity for you. It pushes you to become better and it’s the next level of success that’s waiting for you. You do not let challenges hold you back from taking action and going after your goals. Challenges to be expected as a part of the process to achieve your goals. You know you’ll have to go through challenges in order to achieve success in life. Doers achieve goals by taking action and embracing challenges along the way.
Goals and dreams are not easily achieved. It is said, if it were easy everyone would do it. Yet, so many people remain a dreamer, dabbler, or defender because it’s too scary to encounter challenges when you take action towards your goals. You might be someone who dreams about all the future possibilities but you lack taking action. Or, you could be a dabbler who never stays with anything long enough to see major progress towards your goals. You could be a defender who holds on tight to your current position, taking on any challenge that may compromise that, but never going after new dreams. However, I really encourage you to become a doer who takes action, embraces challenges, and goes after big dreams. You’re always going to have challenges in life. Do not shy away from it. Be the doer and go after your goals and dreams in life.
