A lot of times, you’re in such a rush to achieve your goals that you forget to be present. You don't always acknowledge the little things, lessons learned, or stop to celebrate your success. You believe that if you can just get through this thing, then you can get on to the next thing. You think that if you don't take advantage of this right now, then it might not come around or happen again in the future. You’re rushing through life. Jumping from one thing to another. But, hurrying through life can leave a lot to be desired.
When you rush through life, you don’t always realize what got you to where you currently are. You’re too busy focusing on the future goal and the end result that you forget what got you here. You don’t realize all the lessons you’re learning, the challenges and obstacles you’re overcoming. It’s hard to recognize who you’re becoming in the process when you’re only focused on the future and where you want to be.
Sometimes, when you’re too focused on your goal, you miss the signs. The signs that say maybe you should do this instead or take a detour. Life will throw you a pebble to try and get your attention. If you don’t notice, life will give you a bigger bolder until you finally stop to see what’s actually going on in your life. Maybe you weren’t on the right path to achieve your goal. Perhaps this wasn’t the right goal for you. But, when you’re too busy, head down in the trenches, working hard to make it happen so that you achieve your goal you miss those signs. When you miss those signs, you end up somewhere you didn’t really want to be.
Learning to be present is what’s going to keep you on track in life. You’ll be able to recognize when you need to slow down or speed up. You won’t just be looking towards the future. You’ll be able to be present and notice the little things in life that bring you joy, the moments of growth, learning, and success. These are the things that make you happy, light you up, and create memories you’ll remember for a lifetime. Each one of these things helps you become who you are. But, when you’re hurrying through life you miss these simple little things that actually mean a lot.
Hurrying through life to just try and get to the next achievement may sound fulfilling. But, it’s not what’s going to make you feel good at the end of the life. Sure, having a huge list of accolades of what you’ve accomplished is something you can be proud of. Maybe it makes you one up some else and gives your ego a boost. But, that’s not what really matters in life. Think about things you miss out on because you’re too busy working to achieve your goal. These are the moments with friends, family, get togethers, events, vacations, and quality time with loved ones that you’ve missed out on. Ask yourself if you’re really stopping to savor every moment in life or if you’re just too busy trying to reach your next achievement in life.
There is the quote that says you can have all the money in world, but it can’t buy happiness. Money can provide you a certain level of comfort and security but it can’t guarantee you genuine happiness. Sometimes those who are the most successful or have the most money are sad and lonely. Real happiness comes from love, meaningful experiences, and your own personal satisfaction in life. When you’re too busy hustling and hurrying through life, you miss out on those things and you’re left with a very unhappy, lonely life.
The next time you’re trying to hurry through life just to get to the next thing, stop for a minute and pause. Take in your surroundings. Do a mental, physical, and emotional check in with yourself. Make sure you’re on the right path to your own personal level of success and ultimately happiness. Avoiding hurrying through life, head down. Instead, take a moment to look up, look around, and see where you are. You have a lot to be proud of in that very moment. You may be fearful of the path ahead and feel like you’ve got a long way to go but, don’t let this scare you. You’re on the right track. You’re right where you’re supposed to be, taking time to enjoy the little pockets of happiness in your life. You don’t need to hurry through life. You’ll get there when you get there.
