Heraclitus said the only constant in life is change. But, if you’re adverse to change, you’ll do anything you can to avoid it. You’ll do things to remain in your current comfort zone of what you already know to be safe. You’ll even talk yourself out of going after your goals and dreams in life because it would require change. Change is scary. Yet, it’s also scary to think about life if nothing were to change.
If nothing were to change, life would be dull and stagnant. It’s like watching a movie without any exciting scenes. It would be boring and you’d eventually get up and leave. Change needs to happen in your life. Without change, you’re not learning and growing. You’re content with where you are, simply floating through life’s daily mundane routines. You’re not working towards a goal to better yourself and your current situation. You lack having a dream and you may have even stopped dreaming all together. You’re feeling unmotivated and might believe that the best years of your life are already behind you. But, change requires effort.
You don’t try and change because it’s scary. It’s easier to just remain where you are and do nothing. But, is that life just wasted? Think about all the adventures, goals, and dreams you could achieve if you just started with one courageous step that caused you to experience a small change in your life. You may be worried that by changing your life you’ll screw up and lose what you already have. However, what if your life could end up being even better? You’ll never know unless you try. Ask yourself if you are content remaining where you currently are or do you feel a pull deep down that you’re meant for more in this lifetime? If the answer is yes, then it’s time to embrace change rather than doing nothing and staying where you are.
Begin to seek out change in your life. Give yourself permission to dream. Close your eyes, get quiet, and dream about all the future possibilities you would love to see happen. Journal about what you envisioned. Next, set a clear goal to work towards that pulls you into the future and challenges you to become your best self. Then, take action to achieve it. Work to consistently seek out change to push you out of your comfort zone so that you’ll be able to take those brave action steps towards your goal. Try something new that you’ve never done before. This could be something small like a new recipe, route to work, workout, hobby, etc. Find ways to strengthen your confidence muscle and experience small changes in your life instead of doing nothing.
Life would not be what it is without change. You must learn to embrace and accept it. Even though change is scary, it’s also a necessary part of life. You’re not living life to your full potential if you’re trying to avoid change at all costs. The truth is, you’re going to have to do something different if you want something different in your life. Doing nothing and remaining where you are is something that you can change. You can change your current situation. You can achieve big goals and dreams in life. But, only if you take action and stop being afraid of change. It's time to embrace change and go after your goals in life.
