It’s a new year. You may not be where you expected to be at this very moment, but you must let the previous year go if you want to make room for all the big goals and dreams to come this year. You’re going to need to decide what you want this year. The first step is to reassess where you are and then figure out where you want to be. After you’ve done that, you’ll need an action plan to get you there. Here are the four steps broken down for you to work through this process to help you live the life you want.
If you’re still working towards a specific goal, reassess your goal and how you feel. Maybe your goal no longer aligns with what you want in your life anymore. Decide if you want to recommit, readjust, or completely scrap your goal. It’s okay to make changes, adjustments, and modify your goal. This is your life. Reassess where you are and what you want to make happen this year. If your current goal doesn’t fit with that view, then let it go. You only have one life. If you don’t have a goal, it’s time to set one now. The key is to make sure the goal you’re working towards is in line with what you truly want in life.
Next, think about how you want to feel this year. Perhaps that’s courageous, loved, present, focused, etc. Consider what you need to feel this year so that you’re not stagnant and living last year on repeat. Step outside your comfort zone and push yourself this year. Be ambitious as you decide where you want to put your energy and focus this year. The goal you’re working towards should also be in alignment with how you want to feel this year. Choose a word that inspires you, motivates you into action, and helps you to feel the way you want to feel this year.
Then, figure out what it would take for you to feel this way. Maybe that’s doing things you’re afraid of, spending more time with friends and family, developing a new habit, or learning a new skill, etc. Do something every day that makes you feel the way you want to feel. It doesn’t have to be anything big. Simply take a few minutes focused on doing something that relates to your feeling. You may want to set an alert on your phone or create a new wallpaper as a visual reminder on your device’s home screen. When you spend time focused on doing things related to your feeling, you’re going to not only see progress, but you’ll also feel progress.
If you want this year to be your biggest and best year, you need to create some momentum. That’s what doing something every day related to your goal and feeling means. Make an action plan for what you can do in order to create momentum in your life. Start with your upcoming week and focus on choosing five things that will help you make progress towards your goals this year. Make sure these are little tasks that you can complete relatively quickly. Don’t expect to spend hours every day because that’s not realistic. Break your big goal down into smaller bite sized pieces and tackle a little chunk each day. This helps you to build momentum and create the life you truly want to live.
Get excited for the new year and the big goals you’re going to achieve. Start by taking an assessment of where you are and decide where you want to be. Think about how you want to feel and make sure the goal you’ve set for yourself aligns with that feeling. Choose your word of the year to inspire you into action and to help you feel this way. Lastly, create momentum by taking action every day to live the life you want.
