There are times when you find yourself dwelling on negative experiences in your past of all the things that didn’t work out or go your way. You might be in a place right now where you feel like nothing is working in your favor and life is conspiring against you. But, you’re at a point where you’ve had enough. It’s time to take back your power and find that positive headspace again so that you can confidently go after your goals in life. Learn to let go of the negative thoughts that are limiting what you can achieve in your lifetime.
You’ve formed beliefs about the world because of your past experiences. Perhaps you assume the worst and dwell on the past. You believe that just because a terrible thing happened once, you think that’s what will always happen. Begin to notice if your mind is thinking in absolutes by using the terms everything, never, and always. Such as, life never goes your way or everything is going wrong. You’re only focusing on the bad things that are happening and can’t see the good. It’s hard to believe that amazing things are in store for your future when you’re looking at life through a lens of negativity.
You may be experiencing extreme emotions that are controlling, obsessive, reactive, or impatient. Stress and anxiety plague your mind. You can be irritable and easily fly off the handle at any point. Any slight trigger can set you off into aggressive anger or deep sadness. You’re often defending these negative emotions and placing blame on anything other than yourself because you just don’t know any better. You feel hopeless, not knowing what to do next. You wonder if anything is going to change.
The only way your life and future will change is when you decide to take responsibility. Permit yourself to own up to where you currently are in your life. You’ve gotten yourself here. That may sound like a bit of tough love but your choices and actions determine your future. You can’t continue to blame anyone or anything other than yourself. If you want your future to be different, you have to take back control and step into your own personal power. That starts by acknowledging your thoughts.
Find a quiet place and just be present with your thoughts. Allow each thought to come into your mind and watch it leave. Observe what you’re thinking and feeling. Notice if there’s any tightness, pain, or uncomfortable areas in your body. Watch your breathing as to how quickly or slowly your chest is rising and falling. Pay attention to how you feel with each thought that passes. Recognize if there are more negative or positive thoughts.
The next time you find yourself getting worked up in a situation, tune into yourself and catch your thoughts. Remember that you are the thinker of your thoughts. You can choose to think positively or negatively about a situation. When an event happens, you will have a thought which causes you to react and take a specific action. Therefore, you must be mindful of the thoughts you have because that will dictate your actions. If you want to take action and achieve your goals, you need to stop thinking negatively about all the reasons why it can’t or won’t work. Take action with the belief that you can figure things out just as you have thus far in life. Then, leave a little room for magic and trust that the universe is working in your favor. What you focus on expands and becomes your reality so avoid negative thoughts that limit what you believe you can achieve.
Your past does not dictate your future. What happened in your past is in the past. Learn from it and use it grow. Do not let it hold you back from going after your goals and dreams in life. More importantly, don’t allow it to hold you hostage in a negative headspace for your entire life. Life feels better when you’re happy, achieving your goals, and realizing your dreams. It’s time to let go of your past and the thoughts that are not serving you. Take responsibility for yourself and avoid placing blame. Be patient with yourself and think about a future full of limitless possibility. Choose to start thinking with a positive mindset with the belief that you can achieve your goals and dreams in life. Negative thoughts will no longer be limiting what you can achieve.
