Rediscover Your Motivation To Achieve Your Goals

Nov 14, 2024

Sometimes you don’t want to take action towards your goals.  You’ve lost your motivation and everything else sounds better than working towards your goal.  However, you know not taking action towards your goal is the beginning of the end.  One day without taking action towards your goal turns into two days, three days, a week, a month, a year, etc.  It’s time to get excited about your goals again.  Learn how you can rediscover your motivation to achieve your goals so that you can get back into action and make progress towards your life’s biggest dreams.

Motivation

One of the most common misconceptions when it comes to achieving your goals is that you should feel motivated all the time.  This is simply not true.  There will be many times where you don’t feel motivated to work towards your goals.  Everything else that’s easier sounds like more fun.  You’ll even procrastinate by cleaning or doing other household chores rather than the more difficult tasks required to achieve your goals.  But, if you continue to put your goals on the back burner, you’ll never make any progress.  Soon your goals will just be collecting dust and you’ll forget what you were even working to achieve in the first place.

Your Why

The truth is, motivation comes and goes.  But, it’s knowing what to do when you don’t feel motivated to get yourself into gear to take the action anyway.  The first thing you can do is remember your why.  Recall why you want to achieve your goal.  Think about what it means and how it will change your life when you achieve your goal.  Visualize yourself in the future, when you’ve achieved your goal, and imagine what that feels like.  Tune into those feelings.  Reconnect to your inner desire of why you originally set this goal for yourself.

Reward System

Next, set up some rewards for yourself.  When you take action towards your goal, determine what you will reward yourself with.  Maybe this reward is some tv time, scrolling social media, a dance party to music in your room, a healthy treat, etc.  Tell yourself when you complete an action step towards your goal, then you can have your reward.  Make it a rule that you must take the action and do the work first before you can procrastinate or waste time on other non-goal related activities.

Non-negotiable

Then, make taking action towards your goal a non-negotiable priority.  Schedule it in your calendar if you have to.  Set aside the time you need to do one little thing each day that makes progress towards your goal.  It doesn’t have a to be hours long, it can be one simple 15 minute task.  But, once it’s done, it’s done and you can feel proud of yourself for completing it.  Stay in integrity with yourself and when you say you’re going to do something, actually stick to it and do it!  Yes, you might not feel motivated to do so, but avoiding taking action is not an option when it’s a non-negotiable priority.

Try Something New

Lastly, if it’s gotten boring working towards your goals then it’s time to spice things up.  Try something new whether that’s a different approach, another time of day, asking for help, etc.  Make working towards your goal fun.  Sometimes when you aren’t seeing the results and making the progress you want towards your goals, you have to do something different if you want to see something different.  You can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result.  Change things up a little bit in order to get motivated to work towards your goal again.

There are going to be plenty of times where you don’t want to work towards your goals.  But, think about who you want to be.  Do you really want to be someone who puts off your goals for another day?  This is not who you are.  You are an action taker.  You want to achieve massive success in your life and that happens when you take action towards your goals, even when you don’t feel like it.  Get yourself back into the flow of things and rediscover your motivation to achieve your goals by reconnecting to your why, setting up a reward system, making completing your goal related tasks a daily non-negotiable, and when all else fails, try something new!  By using these four tips, you’ll be back on track and motivated to take action towards your goal again.
