There are a multitude of ways to get from one place to another.
If you were to look at a map and wanted to get from Washington DC to Los Angeles, you’ll see that there are many roads you can take that go in all different directions.
One of the first steps is actually getting in the car and start moving. One road may take you north toward Pennsylvania, another may take you south through Virginia.
The truth is, there is no “right” road to take. Yes, there may be a path that’s faster than another. But you’ll still eventually end up at the same destination.
Remember, there is no “right” direction. These six tips to choosing the right direction will help you move forward and make progress.
Every decision you make will take you further on your journey in life. If you find yourself off course of obtaining your goal then correct it. Make another turn and head in another direction. It’s as simple as that.
From a young age you are taught that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. But there is no straight line in life.
Often you get so caught up in which way will get you there the fastest that you spend too much time trying to decide at the fork in the road. You’re debating which way to take that you never just choose one and move forward. You remain stuck at that point of decision. Time continues to tick by and yet you remain frozen. Paranoid that you’ll choose the “wrong way” and hit a dead end only to lose a bunch of time.
Think about all the time you just wasted in indecision. Refrain your mind to realizing that a fork in the road offers path A and path B. Not a right or wrong way. Just choose one and go for it. You can always change directions. Continue to putting one foot in front of the other by taking action to continue moving forward.
Now path A might have some unforeseen obstacles. Just as driving from one part of the country to another you’ll be faced with a few roadblocks and detours. This is to be expected. You simply keep going.
Take a moment to envision ocean waves on the sand. There is a big rock on the beach and the ocean waves are crashing on shore. The ocean doesn’t stop just because there is a rock in the way. It finds a way around. The same is true for you. When you hit an obstacle, reroute and keep going!
In order to be successful at moving your life forward, you must have a destination you’re trying to reach. Think about a goal you’re trying to achieve. Brainstorm all the ways you could achieve this goal.
Next, choose one and start. If that way doesn’t work out go back to list and try another. Remember, there is not just one right way. There are many ways to get from where you are to where you want to be.
Thomas Edison created the light bulb after 1,000 unsuccessful tries. You are not someone who gives up after the first try. You embrace the challenge and make it happen! Even if it takes more than one try. Do not give up. Keep trying until you get it.
Never give up on your dreams and goals. In life you’ll have to make many choices. A split in the road doesn’t necessarily mean that one way is better than the other. You keep going and eventually you’ll get to your destination. It may not be as quick as you’d like but with continued action you’ll get there. It’s when you stop taking action that you will be stuck, stranded, and just short of where you want to be.
